U.S. AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (USAID): Accelerated multi-factor authentication and identity management

Challenge: As USAID focuses on global development and humanitarian assistance, its thousands of users require “anywhere, anytime” access. Coupled with an increased need for remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the USAID network was pushed beyond traditional perimeter boundary controls. This left gaps in security areas such as remote identity proofing, privileged access management, and authentication assurance levels.

Approach & Outcomes: USAID implemented all of phase 1 and some of phase 2 of this project. Most significantly the team was able to initiate and deploy an enterprise solution for centralization and automation of cybersecurity functions, including multifactor authentication. This agency has been impacted by federal landscape changes. The project is paused and the TMF portion is closed out.
